I hope this paddock poop is correct, otherwise there's not going to much variety with the current way it is in P2... only 3.4 V8 and then 2.0L turbos and some kind of diesel (since currently diesel is practically ruled out in P2).

The pdf says "present generation engines," not "present engines," and is a non-exclusive statement. It says that present engines will be eligible (and are encouraged in the phase-in period). It is not a "complete rule" or meant to be one. It does not exclude other configurations currently not allowed in P2. That's what's been heard in the ALMS paddock, not from anyone with any connection to the ACO.
