I think the situation with Nguyen is quite simple. He tested for Walter Penker, a known talent spotter with Sebring/Remus sponsorship behind him. Walter saw the potential and suggested he race for his team in Formula VW at a discounted rate. Rob did this, had some good results and Penker arranged tests in F3000 where he did well.
