I'm not sure there's as much variation as you suggest.
The engine of a 2011 P1 is going to be a 3,4L atmo engine = Judd, HPD, Porsche? V8 or a 2L Turbo I4 - AER, Mazda. Or a Diesel with smaller capacity than current P1 engines. This is all in the draft regs.
Some form of hybrid will be allowed, and that mean Flybrid or Williams flywheel system or Marelli / Zytek, etc electrical system
You can do a huge amount of design before knowing exact details without being too far off.
