The late 60s, early 70s engines with the 3 litre rules (from 1967). Great sounds; the Cosworth DFV and the Matra V12s just sounded sooo right.
The main difference between them and today's stuff is that when the old engines misfired it was cause of a problem, today it means the effing traction control is on. Today with the revs so high they sound like screaming banshees rather than engines. Put a rev limiter on the damn things!
