Some how this makes it more personal now there is a connection to someone killed in this week's awful events.
The German Jewish poet Heinrich Heine famously wrote in the 19th century "Where they burn books, they will also ultimately burn people." Evelyn Hall describing Voltaire's beliefs said, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".
Sadly we now have a third statement about the importance of freedom of speech and what happens when it is attacked. All we can do in the face of those who would take away that freedom is to add our own voices and state 'Je suis Charlie".
