Will Power claimed his 58th career pole, with a late 1min. 10.178sec lap, an average speed of 125.116mph, to nudge Jack Harvey’s Meyer Shank car by 0.1874sec and so denying him his maiden IndyCar pole position.

Josef Newgarden locked up his front wheels, ruining his flying lap for the Fast 6, which put him on the third row.

Last year's winner Simon Pagenaud, was eliminated in the opening qualifying session putting him 20th.
