On one journey to the Adriatic coast, there were nine of us, and as the youngest I had to sit on a Smiths Crisps square tin all the way there and back without even a cushion on the top! For those that don't remember or know what those tins were, they were used by Smiths to contain the crisp packets for sale to wholesalers and then use to display the crisp packets in retail shops. Like so many things back then, a deposit was paid and then refunded on return, and the only flavour available was plain but the packet also included a twisted blue paper full of salt!
