If you recall Tim, Super Road Saloons was a burgeoning series in the early 90's, and was wiped out by changes to the rules which "demonised" a large number of the cars that were series regulars. The classes were simple, the rules were simple, and it was very very popular.
Post 1997, the series collapsed, numbers fell from being able to run two oversubscribed races at each meeting, to grids of six or seven cars.
It wasn't a case of spending more to keep up, it was "you can't run that here mate, off out of it"
