Hmmm, interesting response to Max's comments. i lived in california for three and a half years in the mid '80's and I loved Americans because of their open-heartedness and willingess to back people who wanted to have a go. Whats happened to that generosity of spirit. all Max is saying is that he is an established CART driver and CART needs established CART drivers if the series is to retain any real credidbility with the general public during the rebuilding that will need to take place in the next two or three years. he's not being arrogant, he's being frank and honest, truthful. He's not saying it to promote himself, but because its the truth, CART does need him and the established stars like him to stay on board, as many as possible. After all the posts about unheard of drivers we get and established star saying it like it is and people are all over him. He said "without wanting to sound arrogant" because it wasn't coming from an attitude of arrogance but a realistic view of the state of play, knowing that someone would react without grce and thinking about the situation he was referring to...and sure enough someone did.
