The old 4-liter DTM engine is being offered--with modifications to reduce internal friction and increase fuel economy--as a low-cost alternative fopr privateer P1 teams.

I'd guess Audi has plenty of blocks and parts it won't be needing, and there are plenty of P1 privateers who are stuck for money, so a cheap alternative might actually benefit everyone.

Judd doesn't look too good after Le Mans last year, Honda is probably pricey and also unproven--and also a lot more complicated, probably, with a turbo/intercooler system to package.

Audi--Good for business, good for racing. Advancement through old technology.
