have you actually watched 80s Le Mans ? Porsche dominance was just from 82 to 85 and from 83 onwoards there were at least hoards of priavateers in Porsches that could win and beat the factory cars which really did happen in 1985
from 1986 onwards very strong competition from Jaguar and later Sauber Mercedes showed up as well as japanese cars of Toyota and Nissan those were very exiting times, not to forget the cars themselves brutal monsters with no electronics, classic H-shifter , those were real drivers
