The race begins, and off the line the front three are away fine. Ingram gets a good start and manages to get past Oliphant to move up into 4th. Further back, Osborne bogs down, and drops 6 places from 12th down to 18th. The RWDs of Jelley and Sutton make good starts, Jelley up to 10th and Sutton up to 15th. As the field settles down, Plato retakes 10th place from Jelley. O. Jackson tries to follow Plato through, but Jelley shuts the door and O. Jackson must take evasive action. Taking to the grass, he drops right to the back of the field. A bit of jostling for position between sees Oliphant back up to 4th, Neal up to 5th and Ingram down to 6th as the leaders complete the first lap. Jelley and Plato continue to battle, and Jelley crosses the line in 10th.
Lap 2, and as the field moves across the line, Morgan has pulled into the pits. It looks like something is wrong with the car, as he pulls into his pits and gets straight out. Gloves and Helmet are off, and that looks like his race is done. The team will now be working on the car to get it out for Race 2.
Lap 3, Moffat overtakes Hill to take 11th place. Further back, M.Jackson is trying to recover from his poor grid position, and moves up to 21st. Turkington tops the time sheet for fastest lap, running in 2nd place.
Lap 4, Plato moves back up past Jelley to take 9th place. Neate moves into 16th overtaking Osborne. Over the line, Cammish pulls clear of Chilton to take 7th. M.Jackson continues to move forward too and is up to 20th.
Lap 5, and the field looks to be settling into a bit of a rhythm. Neate and Osborne swap places again, with Osborne now up into 16th. Butcher takes 14th place from Bushell.
Lap 6 underway, and there is a change for the lead. Turkington pulls past Jordan and now runs out front. Towards the back of the field, Cress takes 22nd from Rowbottom and Goff takes 25th from Boardley. M.Jackson picks up another place to move into 19th. Just ahead, Osborne tries to get into the points by passing Bushell. The move fails though, and out of position he is passed by Neate and Gornall.
Lap 7, Plato gains another place as he moves up to 8th, overtaking Chilton. Neate is looking racy, moving up into the points places ahead of Bushell. Thompson also gains a place, taking 20th from Proctor.
Lap 8 sees O.Jackson move off the back of the field, leaving Hamilton now running last. Proctor slips back another place to 22nd behind Crees. M.Jackson continues to head towards the points, picking up 18th after a mistake from Gornall that also sees him fall behind Osborne.
Lap 9, and both Dynamics drivers are sizing up moves. Neal manages to get past the BMW of Oliphant and is now running 4th, whilst Cammish also gains a place to move past Ingram into 6th. The top ten at the end of the lap is:
1- Turkington,
2- Jordan,
3- Cook,
4- Neal,
5- Oliphant,
6- Cammish,
7- Ingram,
8- Plato,
9- Chilton,
10- Jelley.
Lap 10, and as the lead cars come through, Bushell darts into the pits from 16th. The team have the bonnet up, give the car a check over, and release him back on his way. Unfortunately, he’s dropped to the back of the field.
Lap11, Chilton manages to pull a move off and gets around Plato to take 8th place. Towards the back end of the points, Sutton takes 12th place from Hill. Whilst just outside the points, the Audis switch with Thompson moving up to 18th. Action at the front again as the lap concludes, with Jordan moving back past Turkington to take the lead. Cammish also gains a place, managing to oust Oliphant from 5th to leave him just behind Neal in 4th. Towards the back of the field, Hamilton moves past O.Jackson up into 26th.
Lap 12, M.Jackson’s run might be coming to an end. He’s dropped off the pace a little and is passed by Thompson for 17th.
Lap 13, and Plato climbs a place up into 8th, getting back past Chilton. The rest of the field remains stable.
Onto Lap 14, and the battle to get into the points continues. This time it is Osborne who drops a couple of places to 18th, being passed by Thomson and M.Jackson in the process. Proctor gets a good run onto the finish straight and can squeeze past Rowbottom over the line to take 21st.
Lap 15, Plato looks to gain another place with an overtake on Ingram. The move doesn’t come off though, and Plato ends up being forced wide. This opens the door for Chilton and Jelley to both come through, dropping Plato to 10th. At the front, the two BMWs swap places again with Turkington back into the lead. Hill climbs a place to 12th, getting past Sutton. M.Jackson now sits just outside the points in 16th, having pulled a move on Thompson.
Lap 16, and M.Jackson couldn’t make the move stick. Thompson pulls straight past again on a different line and retakes 16th. Towards the rear, and three HARD cars into on corner doesn’t go. Goff, Hamilton and Boardley all try and take the same apex. Boardley gets spun around and it looks like the suspension has failed. He’s out and hoping to get repaired in time for Race two. Further round the lap, and Cress moves up to 19th with a pass on Osborne.
Lap 17, things are quiet at the front. Outside of the points though, and a few places are being traded. Crees moves ahead of Gornall into 18th. Rowbottom also gains a place on Proctor to take 21st. Over the line, and the seemingly race-long battle for 16th sees M.Jackson back up, with Crees 17th and now Thompson in 18th. After the previous coming together, Hamilton passes Goff for 24th.
Lap 18, and finally M.Jackson gets into the points. A mistake by Neate allows M.Jackson to pass, and he seizes the chance to take 15th. Rowbottom is up to 10th, passing Osborne. Hamilton also makes another place, taking 23rd from Smiley.
Lap 19, and no change at the front. In the minor places, Proctor Smiley and Hamilton end up 3-abreast. Each of them is impeded, and Goff seizes the opportunity to pass all three of them up to 22nd. After getting into the points, M.Jackson pulls into the pits at the end of the lap, and the team are checking over the car.
Lap 20, and M.Jackson is released back out of his pits, but almost all of the field has gone through. Leaving the pit lane, he is alongside O.Jackson. M.Jackson tries to get ahead to avoid losing any more places, but there is contact between the two and they are both onto the grass. Bushell can get by before the Jacksons recover. Despite his efforts, and to the cost of O.Jackson, M.Jackson is nor running last. Team Orders look like they might be in play for the Team Dynamics drivers, with Neal allowing Cammish past into 4th who immediately sets about closing the gap to Cook in 3rd.
Lap 21, and as we head into the final few laps, Neate attempts a pass on Butcher. Butcher defends, and as a result Thompson and Crees can get by. Cress is now in 15th. Moffat attempts to move up the order with a pass on Plato. Plato is robust in his defence and contacts the rear of Moffat’s car. Moffat comes off worse, and his suspension looks to have failed. He’s able to get the car back to the pits, but his race has come to an end. Immediately behind the incident, Jelley takes avoiding action which allows Hill to move up into the top ten. Slightly further forward, Chilton manages to get a run on Oliphant out of the last corner and takes 6th over the line.
Lap 22, Plato moves past Ingram and is back up to 8th. Sutton appears to be struggling a bit on his tyres, and Butcher gets past for 12th. O.Jackson also manages to get past Bushell. Over the line, Proctor is slow out of the last corner. Hamilton and Smiley both pass him on the straight.
Lap 23, Goff gets by Osborne to move up into 20th. At the front, Cammish catches and passes Cook. Cook immediately fights back though, and both drivers see their pace suffer. Neal spies the chance and slips by both up into 3rd place. Cammish is still 4th and Cook drops to 5th. Crees is now dropping down the order. It looks like a slow puncture and he pulls into the pits. The team swap the tyre and send him back out, but it looks like it will just be to check everything else is ok on the car as he is at the back of the field.
Lap 24, final lap. Osborne climbs a place into 19th, getting by Hamilton. At the front, the leading cars are battling right to the end, with no one in the top 7 looking safe. Out of the last corner, the drag race to the line sees Neal manage to pip Jordan right at the end to take 2nd place. Chilton also passes Cook to sneak 5th.
The final order is:
1- Turkington,
2- Neal,
3- Jordan,
4- Cammish,
5- Chilton,
6- Cook,
7- Oliphant,
8- Plato,
