There is no start money and no success money. Teams have to pay for a full season so there is a form of penalty when they do not show up. The reserves are being called in when some do not turn up so where is the harm. I know that I would rather see a LMP 1 or LMP 2 car that turns up late than yet another GT2 car that looks like all the zillions of other races that are on offer. It is GT2 that is the 'swing' in LMS and there are dozens of other races that these cars can attend--often on the same day.
