The driver your refer too was called Wolfgang Schutz I think.
He did not die at the time but some time later as a result of his injuries. The crash was caused by Larrauri being hit from behind as the cars accelerated from the start.
Larrauri hit the wall and there followed a huge pile up and Schutz's car suffered massive damage to one side and was briefly on fire. A couple of other drivers where also hurt including Larruri who started the 24 hour race later so could not have been too bad.
The shortend race was won by Sigala from Gouhier
