These things always go in cycles. To be honest, the idea that the Asian Le Mans Series and the Intercontinental Cup are being inaugurated during the current economic downturn is a good sign for sportscar racing as a whole.

I think the ACO is doing a fine job. I sometimes find the politics difficult to stomach, but I have a feeling that type of dictatorial approach might actually be a strength in keeping the whole thing going.

What's clear - given the strong LMS grids is that the Grand-Am / ALMS split is diluting sportscar racing in North America. One of them needs to fail. Personally I'm hoping it's Grand-Am, because if the ACO can include Sebring and Petit into this rumoured 2011 world championship there's more international need for the series to exist.

I think the other key strength of the LMS is a small number of races. Quality not quantity has definitely helped because it's more financially viable for the little teams.
