That MG win was different though - MG were only entering those races to help them develop the car, and thus weren't eligable for championship points of any description.
From the comapnies' perspectives, it might look better if they don't get included on the manufacturers' championship points ist, than if they are there but lower down - 'casual observers' will think they've failed, without appreciating that the cars are ran without official support.
