Was it the fact that it was too expensive?.
Wasn't it that Dome was too demanding to who raced it, and what they invested into it?
But if the 2014 LMP2 is based on the S102 aero research, you could argue that most of the expensive R&D is done, and they therefor can make it cheaper.
