Because being the F1 broadcaster in Britain or any particular nation is not just about the TV coverage

They shouldn't do a GMM and pump out x articles a day but equally they shouldn't just do pretty much nothing at all. I don't think it would take that much to beat Autosport's F1 coverage - there's a hell of a lot that Autosport.com doesn't report because it's too scared to report rumours these days or is saving stuff for the magazine or whatever, and they also do a hell of a lot of soundbite stories which don't add much. It's not just quantity - it's quality, and I don't think the BBC's F1 news reporting is good enough

Also worth noting at this point that one of the things to come out of the BBC's budget cuts is that they want a lot more links to outside news sources so that they can try and make their money back. So unfortunately that probably means a lot more stuff like the "gossip columns"
