Change is GOOD!

2005 SBD Motorsport British Sprint Championship Regulation Changes

The Loyalty Points Scheme is being modified this year as the scheme as operated in 2004 was thought to be too generous in its award of points. Thus for 2005 it is as follows:
a) 1 point will be awarded for the first 9 events in which a competitor commences a practice run.
b) 2 points will be awarded for all remaining events in which a competitor commences a practice run.

A New Points Scheme is being introduced which is based on 'CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS'. The championship organisers (the BMSA) have prepared and published a set of Championship Record Times for all Categories at each venue. A competitor will get an additional point if they break the Championship Record for their Category in the Top Twelve Run-Off. This scheme will only operate at rounds where the venue has recently held a championship round. Thus Snetterton and Bishopscourt will not be elligible rounds for these points in 2005.

Continuing alongside the Championship is the Foundation Cup for the up and coming drivers. Like Mr Shed! It is only open to competitors who have NOT previously finished in the Top Twelve (Top Ten to 2003). It also precludes any driver of an Over Two Litre Racing or Sports Libre Car. Points are awarded based on the Top Twleve qualifying times of eligible drivers.

2005 SBD Motorsport British Sprint Championship Category Changes

The Category Awards have been expanded to now cover the following:
Modified Production Cars; Sports Libre Cars; Kent Engined FF1600 - New for 2005; Up to 1100cc Racing Cars; 1100 to 1600cc Racing Cars; 1600 to 2000cc Racing Cars - New for 2005; and Over 2000cc Racing Cars - New for 2005.
The Formula Ford Category has been included in response to demand from the many competitors up and down the country and is effectively a National FF1600 Sprint Championship The 1600 to 2000cc Racing car Category has been introduced because of the increasing number of drivers who are no longer elligible for the Foundation Cup. Finally the Over 2000cc Racing Car Category has been included in the Category awards to ensure all classes are treated equally.

Several Category Sponsors have been signed up for the 2005 season, the line-up is as follows:

Connaught Competition Engines - Over 2000cc Racing Car Category
Kent Cams - 1600 to 2000cc Racing Car Category
Tramway Forge - 1100 to 1600cc Racing Car Category
Quantum Cars - Modified Production Car Category
Chelston Motorhomes - Sports Libre Category

Please note that there are still two categories without sponsors - the 1100 Racing Cars and the FF1600 Racing Cars.
