You could probably stitch together a pretty good 100 Years War trip including places like Nogent le Rotrou - which has a good castle.
La Ferte Vidame is an excellent ruined chateau from the revolution.
You probably know this but La Lude is a nice village (good pizza place) with a liveable chateau and excellent gardens.
The abbey at Solesmes looks like a level from Return to Castle Wolfenstein - so of some comedy value.
