Of course when a manufacturer gets in talks with IRL is about ther american market; compensating it with Rally or DTM is a nonsense, cos both are run elsewhere.
DTM is popular only in Germany, Rally have worse problems than IRL, and abot sportscar, we know they're gonna focus on Sebring and Lemans. Therefore, since they quit ALMS, therefore if they don't make it with IRL, they will virtually disappear from the US racing world.

For one thing touring car racing, sportscar racing, and rally are things that are more applicable to it's road cars and it's technology. Audi is still leeching off it's rally success from the 80's.
By the time Audi develop and get an engine out there in the irl and then promote it like Honda they are going to be in the tens of millions for essentially having their name on the engine cover of a one make car(dallara).
Audi is not going to disappear. The GT3 R8 is coming on line and the R15 will be at Sebring. I think they'll be back completely in 2010 if things calm down in the economy.
In any case, the main point is ALL manufacturers are cutting back so to try to do a deal now is going to be tough.
