Hmm. I may be missing something here .... but ....
Looks to me like using the 'New Posts'" search, that I use most of the time, one does not always get the full title displayed. A quick comparison suggests that the title display will stop at the first colon it finds in the thread title. If no colon the whole of the title is displayed (or at least a much larger title field - there may be other rules in play that cause other truncation options but I have not checked in that much detail.)
It's a potentially interesting feature but ....
