I don't know about the homework etc. It may help, but when I went to Le Mans for the first time (1998) I didn't know anything. I only knew that Le Mans was in France, and that it was a 24 hour sportscar race. Some guy we met at a F1 GP told us to go there because it was great, so we went. On our way to Le Mans one of my friends was even wondering how long this race took!
But the thing is: after having spent one day at Le Mans we knew we would be back next year and that we were going to take more friends to join us! We were so impressed!
If you're a race fan you must like it. I can't imagine that you don't.
But hey, all people are different, and with so many people visiting the race there will always be somebody not having a good time.
