Edwards has certainly been very consistent this year and would be the perfect teammate for Rossi. If Yamaha wanted him more than Honda, then it's clearly Honda's loss and Yamaha's gain.
IMO Honda have made a mistake in their supposed treatment of Colin and have made a mistake in letting him go.
