The Badger, I would assume you use a decal softner before you applly the decal and a hair drier ounce the decal is in place this should get rid of air bubbles.
If your surface is not smooth enough try using MicroMesh, it's a polishing kit for acrylics, plastics etc. If you use the course sheets it will smooth the surface and still leave it dull, but if you go to fine it will give the surface a shine/gloss look.
