It was pointed out in the EI article the photoshop of the 908 was not a true reflection of the final cars.

The new cars have a minimum width at the base of the cockpit around 30cm greater than the 908, but the actual coupe roof can be any shape the designer wishes, i.e. a squarish shape like the Mercedes CLR/911 GT1 98, or a dome shape like the Toyota GT-ONE/Bentley Speed 8. The other stipulation is a maximum cockpit volume which would make the rear cockpit resemble a Mercedes C9 or 962, rather than the very short teardrop shape of the 3.5l Group C cars such as the 905.

The 908 cockpit is exceptionally narrow, nothing comes close to it in the Group C or GT1 era bar the 3.5l 905.
