Ford/DJR/Lowndes

Just heard this off a friend (who has a friend) and thought it unbeleivable....but this bloke is normally pretty close to the action.

The rumour goes that Ford are looking at buying DJR, shipping Lowndes across to the QLD based team to eventually take an ownership in it.

This moves Radisich and S.Johnson to FPR.

There are lots of reasons to say that this won't happen, does anyone else have anything to support it?

FTR,00,FPV that is 4 teams that they are supposed to have owned or been going to buy in about 5 years,I can't see it happening and they would want it Melbourne based.

There's nothing to stop them moving it to Melbourne.

I have one: No manufacturer is allowed to own a team...hence the HMS/TWR/Callitwotuwill enquiry.

Anyone who thinks that a manufacturer would be dumb enough to breach this rule needs their head read.

DJR have a first-class QLD facility that is purpose built for their needs.

The chance of Dick leaving there is remote unless there is a colour change in the cars - brand, not sponsor.

Except all the workshop facilities they would have to purchase along with the team.

Besides, don't the rules say a manufacturer can't actually OWN a team?

There is definately big changes coming for DJR in the near future. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if this rumour is true!

Hows this for a thought.
DJR sell to Lowndes in a similar nature that Skaife aquired HRT.
Lowndes and Ritter drive.
Seton as Team Manager and development driver.
And........
Shell would hang around then

Wouldn't think so. If your intentions were to change makes, you would buy a cheaper team than DJR.
On current performance, HRT may be going cheap this off season.

GTR?
Mr Lowndes has been approached previously with offers of equity in racing teams. Despite the lucrative nature of such things, and providing an asset to fall back on once the driving career falls over, it wasnt attractive to Mr or Mrs Lowndes.

DJR is for sale at the right price, Dicky said it himself. I am led to believe their discussions with Holden are WAY further along than we have been led to believe... and that work has stopped on a BA shell that was to be a new car for the enduros.

In the end, my crystal ball suggests Mr Lowndes will stay exactly where he is for 2006 & beyond.....

I am not saying it is on, I am saying the discussions to explore the red opportunity went way beyond just idle chit chat.... for reasons that escape my logic, Holden see DJR's brand name as a prize, and would be seen as a "win" against the other mob if they convince the icon to switch....

And dont think they have finished.... I wonder if there should be some sort of rule in Supercar about talking to anyone and everyone in the paddock who is currently employed in specialist positions about moving across....

435 people might think they have the same job opportunity at Ford Performless Racing

Apolgies in advance for not having a copy of the quoted evidence but I am sure I read during Dicks recent denial of the Holden switch that he had just signed on for another 3 years with Ford and the team is now working on securing next years sponsorship.

GTR, you mean like the Rugby League anti-tampering rule?

Can't see that happening. 1) It would almost certainly be a restraint of trade. 2) If teams want to keep key personnel - sign them to a contract.

As much as we all talk about contracts being worth nothing, well, to break one costs plenty. The contracts are only ever nullified when lotsa cash is transferred.

Formula 1 does it quite well. Key personnel have contracts, to break them, new team pays handsomely and person has 6 months gardening leave.

It is a drivers championship according to the team owners so the only ingredient that is worth money is the driver So the others are fair game. What help could some vehicle dymanics guru be in a control formula when it goes to control shock and spring package and all the pick up points are the same. Remeber it is all about the driver and that is what the team owners(former drivers) want it to return to.You don't find to many drivers that say that they are not the best driver out there but are just lucky to have a faster car than everyone else.
Look at the difference in performance of say
Bowe/Brad
Skaife/Kelly
richards/rest of CPR
Tander/any other GRM driver
All down to the driver,no team would field a good car and a better car according to prefence of driver would they

I think the whole holden/djr whispering campaign was to scare some more money out of Ford. Looks like it worked.
