2011 Forum Pick 'Em Contest - Indy Pole
2011 Indy 500 “Pole Day” Pick ‘Em Contest
Saturday, May 21, 2010 DEADLINE: Saturday, May 21, at Noon (GMT), which is 6 a.m. In “The Racing Capital of the World” NOTE: These are for “Pole Day” only…and read them carefully. Deals could be cut for TBA entries or backups on Sunday, so I just focus on this day for Indy. Bump Day has too many variables in it...Foyt could make a "Giaffone Phone Call" on Sunday afternoon like he did a few years ago... QUALIFYING PICKS: 1. The Pole Winner: (2 pts) 2. The Pole Winner's “Average Qualifying Speed” (4-Lap Average) (2 pts.) Carry it out to the one-thousandth place like IRL Scoring does: NOTE: IF you get BOTH #1 and #2 Correct/Closest, add 2 "Bonus Points" 3.The Driver who will Run the “Single Fastest Qualifying Lap” (2 pts.) 4. The Actual Speed of that “Fast Lap” (2 pts.) NOTE: IF you get BOTH #1 and #2 Correct/Closest, add 2 "Bonus Points" 5. List the Pole Winner Again, plus the OTHER EIGHT drivers (in order) who will earn the "Fast 9 Shootout" spots (2 pts for each Driver in correct spot, 1 pt. For correct Driver, but wrong spot) NOTE: Enter them as they will appear on the Final Grid on Race Day...not the results of the first session to get them into the "Fast 9" ROW ONE: 1. 2. 3. ROW TWO: 1. 2. 3. ROW THREE: 1. 2. 3. 6. Driver who will "Just Miss" the "Top 9 Shootout" (10th fastest qualifier). 7. Slowest “Pole Day” Qualifier To Earn a Spot on the “Pole Day” Grid -- 24th Fastest – on that day (2 pts.) 8. The four-lap Average Speed of that 24th Qualifier (2 pts.) NOTE FOR #7 & #8: That speed and driver could get "Bumped" the next day, but still pick that last spot as of 6 p.m. Saturday (2 pts.) 9. The Final Driver who gets “Bumped” from 24th Spot on Pole Day (2 pts.) (He/she will have the 25th fastest 4-lap average on “Pole Day”) IMPORTANT NOTE: If Saturday gets rained out, we will use these same picks for the Day Two on Sunday. Your "Bump" pick will still be the 25th Pick, even though they will have to fill the entire field on Sunday. The Top 9 will be counted as normal. The "Just Miss" will be the 10th car on the grid. If both get rained out, I'll have to see how the IRL handles it, but the same grid numbers will apply. There...That's a clear as mud, isn't it? Good Luck in Two Weeks!!! |

ADDED NOTE:
This is the only contest event I do the entire season where I allow you to follow practice times for the week leading up to the deadline for pick. If you can do it, take advantage of it!!! It is a HUGE help that I provide to you for this, because you'll get to see how quick they run in different weather conditions and by checking the Saturday forecast, you can get a decent idea as to what the speeds will be like. Perfect Example: Last year on Pole Day, it was cool and comfortable but sunny and the cars were fast. The weather was like that all week. On Bump Day, it reached 90 degrees (F) and No One had any set up data for running in such heat... I think it is one of the reasons why Paul Tracy didn't make the show...he couldn't get any grip and almost put his car into the wall twice on his last attempt. I think that Daisy is on vacation that week, so she will be posting proir to cars taking the track. |

I'm just glad that I shook the rust off of my picking abilities at Sao Paulo. My picks at Long Beach really stunk up the thread. Iv'e gotta tell all of you though...Since I live in Indy, I get A LOT of news as well as scuttlebutt on what is happening at IMS, the Dark Horses to watch for (everybody was telling me Carpenter was going to make the Fast Nine last year, and he did, as an example), so hopefully, I'll hit it strong and my picks will be good. |

Today is "Fast Friday" at Indy!!!!
You'll get a chance to find out who can run quick in qualifying trim (provided the get a clean lap without a tow) and the temps today (near 80) and humidity will be very similar to what to expect this weekend. This will be their first warm day to test as well, so quick cars in the cool may be a slippery handful in these conditions. Of course, some will sandbag and save their best for tomorrow, but today is literally where the rubber meets the road. |

I waited until people got clean laps at the end of Fast Friday and filled them out late Friday night after seeing the qualifying order...
I was doing a rain dance, because I would have had 3 cars in correct spots instead of one if they wouldn't have been able to do the Fast 9 Shootout. |

That was not good. Could have score more, if Tim didn't just beat me for pole time (that was close). Luckely, apart from Tim, all scores were low.
