SBR and Pirtek to part company
According to a news release on Race Time, Pirtek has announced it will not be renewing its sponsorship deal at SBR when the current deal expires at the end of this year....

So in the past 12 months we have seen Castrol, K Mart, Ozemail, Pirtek and Shell announce their departure as naming rights sponsors and throw in Super Cheap who are apparently weighing up their options...this is concerning.

It's true.
If this series is being watched by more and more people, why are sponsors leaving it in large numbers? |

I think it's just got too damn expensive. It would have been a fairly attractive proposition when they started all those years ago, but in todays market it doesn't stack up anymore.
I think we're starting to see what they call a "market correction". |

I think Pirtek had a boom when Ambrose won a few rounds in 2002 and winning the championship in '03 and '04 and winning the Sandown 500 in '04 with Mr Gregory Ritter

Hopefully this means Caltex will kick in the additional funds or someone will take over both so they can put there 2 lead drivers together for the enduros in the future

I reckon the Parra Eels provided better value for money for them, good exposure at way less cost.

Yeah, I think the deal with one of NRL's top teams was a forward step, but SBR and the Eels made a strong bond and gave away each others merchandise

Cant see Autobarn thinking they got 100 cents in the dollar for 05, not a great start. Lets face it, Ford & Holden pay the bills. |

Well haven't the Stonies done a fantastic job this year???
First of all they find out Marcos is heading OS. Then that they are losing Pirtek... To keep your head down in the face of those 2 obstacles is sensational... |

Ignoring that this rumour has been around the traps since about June, this is a direct quote from the release "Pirtek is in the final year of their current three-year contract and decided after the weekendās Bathurst event that they would not be taking up their option."
I would have thought the bigger issue is when the sponsor of the winningest car of the last 3 seasons decides they havent gotten enough exposure from what they have spent, then what hope do any of the other brands in the sport have? Wests Tigers were on the back page of last Saturday's Telegraph demonstrating a new sponsorship deal with Proton cars... worth $575,000. ARL is in the paper every day of the week, they get 2 hrs of coverage live each live game, signage around the grounds, plenty of media interest. For around 1/3 of the ask of a Supercar team. I think this is a very strong message... are the cash barons at AVESCO listening? |

All you can hope is that the replacement sponsor is willing & able to put in more funding and support than the departing brand....

Overlooking that whilst $500k might get you a sponsorship deal with a suburban Melbourne or Syndey, Football or Rugby club that's all it is! A country or state or city or two-team only city team has to be a much more attractive proposal surely? The likes of Fujitsu, WPS, Autobarn, OzJet etc. seem interested even if they only get on TV for crash damage... so I would hope that there is someone is interested in putting up some cash to support a top car. |

It would be interesting to know how much Pirtek were paying. This could also just be the end of the multi year deal and now Pirtek cannot afford SBR's asking price to renew the agreement.

1. Pirtek could sponsor Ambrose in the states, I know they are expanding here.
2. Every sponsorship has different value. Nobody gives a crap about the eels outside of NSW. |

Well, with possibly three championships, Pirtek decided that they have got the most out of the sponsorship, who doesn't know about Pirtek in V8s these days, and surely we'll still be talking about the Pirtek car in years to come, they're better off spending the money to get exposure elsewhere.

How can any company get what they are after by spending, in Pirtek's case, bucket loads on one car, which only races 13 times a year - and NOW as of next year only 10 times in Australia? Also factor in actual race air-time which is what, 90 minutes at best? Plus for Marcos has done them a dis-service by braining them for the past 2 years and winning by 4 hours so the camera doesnt worry about him out front, they would rather show the ding-dong going on for 14th and 15th. So in terms of 'bag for your buck' NRL is a massive winner for all the reasons GTR said - its 5 pages in the paper day in day out, 26 rounds or whatever it is, live on tv if you're good, if you're not every game is on Fox, and your team jumpers and therefore logo and name is visible on the tele for the whole 80 minutes of the game. not good...... |

I think you may be surprised at the amount of real dollars contributed to this team for what is really sponsorship on 1 car even though it is the winning car. This company has supported this team from day dot and as such has enjoyed a much sweater deal than most. Good luck to them as they have enjoyed success and great exposure and I am sure you will find not lost to the sport for ever just considering their options. As for the footy stuff... you have got to be kidding. Although I am a Bulldog tragic in the NRL I recognize that the only sport in this counrty to be fearful of sponsorship stealing or T.V time is bloody arial PING PONG......
