What The British Rallycross Regs Will Do In 2004!
A 2004 supercar turbocharged focus with a cubic capcity no greater than 2058cc x 1.7 = 3498cc equiv 1120kg weight up approx 50kg on 2003. 45mm restrictor power down 150bhp on 2003.
A 2004 supercar Metro 6R4 3.5 atmo 1220kg! 3.8 atmo 1290kg! 2005 Metro dies..goodbye cruel world 20 years old though! What this mean's is at the British Rallycross Grandprix no one has any more power than Hansen and Eklund so the euro guy's have a chance to win! |

Oh and specframe cars havent taken off, because they look false, they are just as exspensive to run, so desptie the british trying to be clever a few years ago, it has shown that the european championship has had it right along. In fact no body even wants to buy a cheap spaceframe supercar cos they arent competitive. From my point of view the spaceframe regs is just like the Daytona prototype situation sports cars have in america.
Bring on the full european rules and lets get our round of the European championship back where the proper racing is. As Pat Doran said in an interview a couple of weeks ago, it would be nice to have a car to compete in some european events. |

Peter S, You dont like Metro 6R4's do you!
I am for getting the euro champ round back though. The question for you is then. You can buy one of the following roadcars, which one would you buy; 2003 Renault Clio V6 3.0 V6 24v mid engined 230bhp, RWD, 0-60 6 seconds. Max Speed 146mph. £26,000 1986 MG Metro 6R4 Road Version 3.0 V6 24v mid engined 250bhp, 4WD, 0-60 3.5 seconds. Max Speed 150mph £12,000 |

2003 Renault Clio.....more reliable!(hehe!!) In fact a clio WRC, as used in the French rallycross championship would go down a treat.
I dont like Group B cars in rallycross as all i want is rallycross to be massive again, have loads of British drivers in the european championship and have our round of the european championship back in england. The Metro 6R4's were good in there day, but that day i am afraid is in history. We can all make rallycross big again with everyones support.....in fact who do you think will be britains or Irelands next european champion? I think John Haffey if he buys an Erc legal machine. I hope he does as he has a lot of talent. I would love to see someone put Richard Hutton or Nick Jones in a top class ERC car cos they had/still have the talent to deliver an ERc crown. |
