Split TV Coverage

Down in the Apple Isle, we had to endure an enforced three hour break in the coverage of Sunday's race. When Larko started his tech talk, we promptly left the V8's to cover the AFL game out of Melbourne, then resumed the car racing at 5pm!!!

Thanks Southern Cross.

Anyone get a split coverage or is it just a Southern Cross thing?

Stealthy, I am in Adelaide today until Monday, maybe we could catch up?

It was split for Hamilton's round in Qld. Won't be such an issue for Melbourne at Winton given the game is from Adelaide live at 3PM, HOWEVER it will be split for northern states again because of the contract that states the AFL need to be off air at 5PM for local progamming.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
We had a split at the track also. for some reason they decided to put other stuff on between qualifying and the race

for Winton in Sydney & Brisbane NRL heartland we have to endure a split telecast due to a Hawthorn v Richmond game yet in Victoria and SA AFL hearland it's a full V8 telecast followed by the Carlton game, why can't that be done country wide?

So we are being punished in 2 ways

1. Having to wait till 4pm for the race to start
2. Having to sit through whatever rubbish Richmond dish up this week

5 of the channels I receive on my digital STB are channel 7, and with the exception of 7two the rest show the exact same content.. Why can't they show the V8's on one of these?

Legally they can't. V8s are on the anti-siphoning list which means they have to be shown on the main channel before they can be shown on secondary channels.

Here's hoping the review of the list allows them to be shown on secondary channels in the future.

Agreed. Why the **** do we have to have our sport chopped arround to suit the GayFL ? Imagine the howls if the last quarter of that wretched game was shortened by even 5 minutes to accomadate our sport.

And esp in NSW & Qld, not even GayFL states. The sooner the 7 network
looses the V8's the better. I'm over them

Because the 'gayfl' has a bigger following. Always has, always will.

Why whatever channel that has the rights can't put a FULL telecast on later in the night/early morning with no missing laps is beyond me. And moreso now that theres 400 HD channels.

You would think they would have made sure a timed race due to a safety car would never happen again. But alas.

Here's a couple of ideas for the Channel 7 / V8SCTV people.

Either

A. Start the telecast 1/2 an hour earlier.

B. Get rid of the drivel between quali and the race, theirs your 1/2 an hour.

C. Cut the podium presentation not the last 5 laps. I would rather watch the full race distance and then cut straight to the football as the cars cross the finish line rather than what we got served up today.

The AFL is far more popular and worth much much more in terms of viewers, prestige and revenue to the networks.

Both the V8s and F1 are time limited events to fulfil their TV commitments.

All good and valid points. Also do the GayFL lovers really need the 10 minute mutual ego massage from their commentators? Why not cross direct to the wretched game? Ch 9 do it with the cricket.

But this is the network that offers gems like "Home & Away'" and "Desperate Housewives"

No different to the 15 minutes 10 spend before F1 or Moto telecasts....

In Brisbane the sporting telecasts have to be off air by 5:30 PM for "The Great South East" (reason why the big St.Kilda-Geelong clash last year wasn't shown up there, I was in Melbourne that day). Plus need I remind you of the number of reasons why the AFL gets priority (780 000 000 and growing)?

As for ratings last weekend, V8's itself managed 279K on Sunday (Doggies vs Sydney/Melbourne vs Eagles for Perth rated 427K. And before you ask Raceday Extra technically didn't out rate the footy because of some lass named Watson getting in late), and on Sunday it dropped to 251K thanks to the split coverage compared to virtually 500K for Port vs Carlton (shown late in Northern states) and 445K for Cronulla vs Penrith in 2 states shown against the majority of the race itself.

One thing I'm wondering without looking at anything......if the ASL only covers Bathurst and the International events, then why couldn't the V8's be LIVE on 7TWO and the footy on normal 7?

Timed race not Seven's fault

Quote:
But Francis said that V8 Supercars determined when the race finished and that Seven could have broadcast the whole race even if had run the full 67-lap distance.

“It is not a decision of the Seven Network,” he said.

“We’re not fans of timed finishes either, and we’re not standing next to race control saying ‘finish the race’. That’s not the game we play.”

Does this mean I have to send a letter of apology to Seven for the email I sent them?

Once again the clowns at Southern Cross have struck!!!!

TV guide for Saturday shows V8 Extra, Fujitsu series and the Biante Touring Car Masters between midday and 2pm, set the VCR and what do we get V8 Extra only!!!!

The difference between Southern Cross and Ashton Brothers circuis, was the circuis only had two clowns and least they made you laugh.
