The Moon Monkey should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Worst car to win an F1 race?

How about... the Jordan Ford EJ13 - Brazil 2003!

Relative to the competition, this year's Jordan, undoubtedly is up there. But that H16 engine was anotehr atrocity that only Clark could've dragged to glory.

The 1996 Ferrari is perhaps the worst to win multiple races, although once oyu factor their appalling reliability, Senna did well to win 5 times in 3 years at Lotus.

Did Rosberg win in the 1984 Williams? Such a wobbly, flexy atrocity!

In recent years the worst car to win by far has to be the Jordan in Brazil this year. As for the earlier F1 years -

Well, usually in these questions you need to look all the way back to 1950 and pick out various occurances, but to be honest, can you really top the Jordan EJ13 - the 2nd worst car in the field - winning a race? I don't really think so.

Ligier cars were hardly a dog in 1996 having the same Renault engines as Williams, and chassis input from Benetton.

The 96 Ligier Panis drove to victory had a Mugen Honda engine in it.

The EJ-13 is probably the most improbable car to take a win.

How about the Cooper that Pdero Rodrigues won the 1967 South African GP with? OR maybe the Penski that Watson won the 1976 Austrian GP with?

Gotta agree, this years Jordan is Auful, the worst car on grid except the Minardis.
and suspension breakings, they could had a 1,2 in Brazil if Firmans hadn't gone because he was with Fisi when it happened.

This years Jordan would certainly rate.

But I agree with the thought on Keke Rosberg at Dallas in the Williams in 1984. Williams cars during the years 1983-84 were bloody awful.

Fisi's win was pure luck? I suppose from the perspective of the car yes, but from the driver a most definate no. Recall he did pass the second comming. (although we don't hear much about that now adays.

What about Panis' win?

Good point about the Cooper, but I reckon the Penske was pretty good once they had it sorted. They had several other strong runs with it during the season.

Lets see:

1958 Argentine GP - Moss - Cooper T43. OK, not the worst car in the world, but it was SOOOO underpowered and Moss was the only guy around who could have won with it (tyres were down to the canvass at the end).

1972 Monaco GP - Beltoise - BRM P160B. Failed to score a point anywhere else with the 'B' version and the 'C' (later in the year) only just managed it.

1981 Monaco and Spanish GPs - Villeneuve - Ferrari 126CK. Absolutely HAS to be on the list. Incredible power, but possibly the worst handling car to win a GP - how, just how did Gilles win at Monaco!?

1984 Dallas - Rosberg - Williams FW09. Turbo like a switch.

1996 Monaco GP (again!) - Panis - Ligier JS43

This year's Jordan has to be on the list too, especially as it's been struggling to stay ahead of the Minardis at several races (and breaks down a lot!)

As for multiple winners, three spring to mind:

1974 Lotus 72E - Peterson - 3 wins. Classic car, but too long in the tooth by then.

1993 McLaren MP4/8 - Senna - 5 wins. Better in the latter part of the year, but to take those early wins was something special.

1996-1997 Ferrari 310/310B - Schumacher - 3 and 5 wins. In terms of pure driving, probably Schuey's best period, unitl Jerez.

would you really call the 1997 Ferrari that bad?

Even if Schumi was driving it, a car which comes so close to a championship could not be that bad
