Rfactor display problems

I have a bit of a problem with rfactor. occasionally i get a flickering duplicate of the current display that is off set to both the left and right.

it's as if the screen is trying to show the left and right hand view on top of the main in car view. it causes the game to slow momentarily but only lasts a few seconds.

It also occurs in the main menu. sometimes I can play Rfactor without it happening. other times it occurs several times a lap.

I have noticed no link to the mod or track being used.

If anyone has any suggestions, i'd love to hear from you

Yeah tried that too. It's wierd because i noticed the same problem occur when I was using Virtual Earth. It seems it isn't an Rfactor problem, more of a my computer problem!! Still, if anyone has encountered anything similar and can offer help I'd be glad to hear.

For the record I'm running a Dell Inspiron M1710 with Intel Core Duo T7400 2.16ghz, 2Gb RAM and Vista home premium 32-bit

I've recorded the problem occuring on my mobile phone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f2gpSo8IZI Quality is poor but you can see it flicker at the beginning of the clip. usually it is more severe than that and more prolonged, resulting in loss of framerate.

Ok i found your system here http://www.notebookreview.com/defaul...Dell+XPS+M1710

It could tell be that its just getting too hot, laptops always seem to have the little fans going on them, so i presume they produce a lot more heat and as it is smaller it can't dispate anywhere. The specs on your laptop are pretty good, but it could well be its just getting too hot. Try some new drivers, new direct x software. If its happening in other programs as well, i would guess its down to the main drivers of the laptop.

Ok, thanks for that. I'm quite aware of the need to keep it cool, my last laptop used to run quite hot. I have a USB cooling stand with 3 additional fans which run pretty much all of the time. Can you suggest which drivers would the best to upgrade, (my graphics drivers are current)

go to nvidias main site and follow the downloads link for drivers. nvidia are ace 'cos their drivers are generic for each series of card so there isn't much you can get wrong. Once you have the drivers, uninstall the current ones, reboot, install the downloaded ones, reboot again and see how it goes.

If it happens in multiple programs then it has to be either hardware failure or drivers. Have you updated Windows Live Messenger recently? i noticed that after i updated mine (XP not that vista rubbish ) all my graphics were messed up. After removal / installing drivers again all was fine...

Problem solved!

After contacting Dell's online help department, they arranged for an technician to call round the next day. He arrived with a brand new graphics card and motherboard. After 45 mins he was done and my computer has been fine since.

Thanks to everyone who offered help and suggestions!!
