Best circuits

Cadwell is IMO the best simply because I find it the most challenging. Yes overtaking is very hard, but this circuit has so many facets to it compared to anything else.

Like the very fast Coppice into Charlies, Chris Curve down into the gooseneck, the mountain, hall bends, in fact the only corner I don't like much has to be Barn. Each section is different and with the big amount of gradient there every part has something different about it.

Oulton is a good second as again there are some great bends like Druids, Old hall and Island is a real test of nerve.

Donington is good, but only really has the craners and say Coppice as the two most exciting corners on the circuit. The rest are okay but nothing great.

Brands (indy) is too short and dislike Clearways, though Surtees S, Graham hill bend and of course Paddock are good fun, but its just too short. GP would be a different matter I guess.

Anglesey is a bit of a hidden gem, though a short one. School is a great corner and the run out to Abbotts will tell you if you got School right. Radar is another tricky one, like this circuit a lot.

Boringstone is just that boring. National is just **** with only Copse being remotely exciting. Intl layout is a tiny bit better mainly because it incorporates Bridge, but the rest is pretty dire and akin to driving round Milton Keynes ie one never ending roundabout.

I haven't driven Croft (and Thruxton but have driven everywhere else) but it looks very good i have to say.

Knockhill isn't bad but is only really half a circuit as there's nothing too exciting between Clark and Duffus dip.

My fave of all by a long way though is Spa, just love that place.

I have driven these with RX8, MK1 MR2 NA & SC and Caterham Superlight.

Cadwell Park by far the best and should be included in the list.. A circuit that really rewards courage and precision I find.

Second to that would by Oulton Park..

Both excellent to drive in a Mini. (Mighty Mini).

Cheers,
Evan

Thruxton. It needs both big balls and a good understanding of car dynamics.

Brands.

When I was growing up Brands Hatch WAS motor racing.

Policeman up and down the country could be heard saying
"Where do you think you are sonny ? Brands Hatch ?"

its gotta be there or Donington..

the craner curves are actually easier to drive than they look though aren't they ? (I said drive, not be fast around!)

But to say that you've been down the Craner Curves at full chat..
again... the stuff of childhood dreams...

and just for the record...

I'm in a Red Spitfire when I race... !

Spa and Spa and er............ Spa?

But UK, it has to be Cadwell. Not only rolled a car into a ball at Park I also held a lap record there for a while.

Currently race a Group 1 Capri.

While I agree with Instructormeister Mason, Thruxton does reward the experienced technical racer with larger goulies, Cadwell requires the above with lots of concentration as there isn't any room for mistakes being so narrow.

While the exhilaration of taking Church flat in top at ridiculous speeds is mega-wow factor, there's nowt like the gut wrenching feeling of over the mountain, and through hall bends, the blast past the pits and up through coppice & charlies. Not to mention screaming through gooseneck and oh my god! Mansfield! Fun fun fun fun fun!

We had a thread some time back about the ultimate circuit. I think nearly all circuits have got something of character that gives you goosebumps. Some have lost some character in the name of "safety" (Oulton - Knickerbrook)(Castle Combe - before the chicanes)(the old Croft)

Regardless of that, I still say Cadwell, even if it's miles from anywhere, and has no nice shiny pits complex, and the bar spends most of it's time shut at car race meetings (Grrrrr)

Oh yes, and I used to race a scabby Nova, but these days (if the engine ever comes back), it's a ex-Thundersaloon Vaux Belmont (Chevy V8).

I didn't mention Lydden..... first place I ever raced, still love it. So short you have no time to rest, you have to be smooth to be quick. Down, up, up more, down, round and round and round whirling whirling.............. I'm dizzy! (Sorry Diz!)

I think there's a simple reason why so few people have voted - they all like to race at Oulton Park, which isn't included in the poll!

I voted for Silverstone because its the home of F1, one of the best circuits in the world.

Why only 2 votes?

I like Silverstone, but it isn't as enjoyable to drive as some of the others. Hence 2 votes, I guess.

Seeing as Cadwell has won it kind of, I take it that it's the most enjoyable circuit to drive.

Dosn't the cicuit consist of local roads? Because if it's what I think it is it looks great!
