Pierre Martins should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Old Kyalami photos, anyone wants to guess?

At the recent SA tourist trophy there was this elderly gentleman who had some old photos on display that he took at Kyalami during the sixties and seventies. I didn't get a chance to speak to him, so I know nothing about these photos.

Anyone wants to venture a guess as to event / cars / drivers?

Pierre.

I would guess that the 2nd picture would be the Kyalami 9 hours.

Tyrrell #3 (Picture_472) must be Eddie Keizan, if I'm not wrong......

Eddie Kiezan... Now there's a SA driver with a head for business. Used prize money from a race win to start a company called Tiget Sport Wheels back in '67. TSW is arguably the largest aftermarket wheel manufacturer in the world today...

BTW Eddie Keizan is a 4 times SA saloon car champion, SA Formula 5000 champion, drove for three seasons in the SA Formula One series in Tyrrells and Lotuses and went off-road, winning the Roof of Africa twice.

In Picture_472 Dave Charlton in the Lotus 72 can be seen to the left of Eddie Keizan. Who's car of which only the nose section is visible, can be seen to Keizan's right?

Is SA F1/F5000 a specialist subject of yours?

Hi Allen,
my father was a business partner of Sam Tingle, hence I grew up with Connaughts,LDS Alfas, LDS Climaxes, BT24s,and I got to know all the big players of the day. Messrs Jackie Pretorius,Paddy Driver,Bobby Olthoff,John McNicol, all good guys who knew how to party, especially when joined by the likes of Mike the bike and Hawkeye.

Hi and welcome gizbrown. I'm also a newbie here, having just signed up the other day. Nice to see fellow "Saffies" get on board.

Man, your knowlege is astounding, you must've had a heck of a time growing up. The drivers of those days knew how to party hard. Nowadays it's all business.

Say, I wonder if I can bounce this one off you - My late father, Tini Martins, built a heavily modified Ford Anglia - 327 Chevy V8 - and ran it the Krugersdorp Hillclimb, some drag races, and came up with the crazy idea to enter the Nine Hour sometime in the mid sixties. The V8 Anglia ran exceptionately well, but retired early with overheating and brake problems.

The V8 Anglia was relatively well known at the time - dark grey with two wide, bright yellow stipes across the bonnet, roof and boot (as was the fashion those days). The Car Magazine even did a feature on the car and I used to have a copy as a child.

I'm trying to find more info and maybe some photos of the V8 Anglia. I know it's a shot in the dark, but do you perhaps recall anything about it?

Thanks,
Pierre.

Hi Pierre, sorry it doesn't ring a bell However I have some mid sixties 9hr programmes somewhere, I'll have a look and get back to you. Krugersdorp hillclimb must have been quite something, I recall seeing photos of Bobby Olthoff in his M1 minus bodywork winning it the one year. Also do you ever remember seeing Steve Mellett in his home made special called the Mirage? I think it was based on an LDS?
