Decided to take the plunge and get a prime lens...advice please.
I'm starting to think I need to stop looking at consumer level zooms that try and do everything for a cheap price, and start getting a few quality lenses. I'm particularly tempted by this one,

Also, I was thinking of perhaps a 1.4x TC to go with it, for some of the bigger circuits, like Silverstone. I'm new to this sort of thing, and I'd still like a decent zoom for closer stuff, and a good closeup lens aswell, for the pits etc., so any opinions, advice etc. would be appreciated. Budget is approx 1,000 pounds. |

I'm in a similar situation myself because the 80-200mm just simply could not cut it. This 300mm seems like a fairly good choice for the price and unfortunately, there aren't that many second hand around. I'll be interested to know what you think of this baby after the test. I know that the earlier non S model can be had for around ~£300.

Well, I got the lens I was after yesterday, used it today at Silverstone, and I am super impressed! This lens is brilliant! (A lot of) money well spent I think

Well I would like a nice expensive 200mm zoom, but that can wait a few months. My current one is fine, but I'm really loving this new lens.
