Moto GP, Round 7 - Catalunya

Three race weekends on the trot! While this should be heaven for the race fan in all of us, unfortunately the racing (and the grid) has been less than stellar. Jorge Lorenzo is in a class of his own at the moment. He most certainly will challenge for the win.

Since this is Spain and a track the Honda might like, I think Dani Pedrosa has a chance as well. And the only interesting championship battle at the moment is between Puig’s clone and Andrea Dovisioso. Speaking of Honda riders, what can Randy de Puniet do? I’m probably not his biggest fan, but it’s been nice to see him as top Honda qualifier the last couple of races.

That brings us to the Ducati team. About the only interesting thing going on here is whether or not Rossi will be racing a Duc next year, and if Stoner is on his way out. I’m sure Casey and Nicky will put in solid rides, if nothing else.

We get a small grid boost with the second Fiat Yamaha bike, which will be under ridden by Yoshikawa-san. Ben Spies should be able to get another top 5, but maybe more?

Marco Mlandri will be back, which pushes us back up to a whopping 17 bikes.

I would discuss Moto 2, but I have misplaced my magic eight ball. This class continues to be a mystery to understand.

I will make one prediction though. The 125 race will be won by Marquez, Terol or Espargaro.

Be good if Lorenzo & Pedrosa take each other out at turn 1, lap 1 & a Spaniard dont win any of the 3 classes

It's amazing just how poor the class of rider is for the Japanese test riders. How can they be expected to be of any value to the development of the bike if they are as far off the pace as they have shown

That is an excellent question, and one that I've asked myself many times.

They are not there to develop the bikes, there is no testing alolowed these days in MotoGP, so these riders are just nominated test riders who dont need paying huge wages or need prising out of contracts.

It's not like the old days when Itoh or Aoki would drone round Suzuka or Sugo testing new bits!

back to normal way of things for BBC. Which means also back to normal for Euro sport. and just like last weekend if there is a red flag at the other fast bike place Euro sport has to make a call.

Is Iannone cheating? I cant believe hes that much quicker than Talma on the same bike. Who went down in the shunt, I thought I saw poor Debon go down again - and a bike looking like De Angelis starting the shunt... am watching a foreign feed so cant make it all out.

and on screen info said he is demoted from 1st place due to illegal passing(altough it looked pretty much ok with Luthi on the vibrators)
wtf does that mean .. time penalty? .. one place drop in position ? only from 1st position ?? ..

hence the frenzied pit activity. Then again Andreas gonna get no love in Spain after last years racist remarks and headbutting Pol.

I think I did De Angelis a dis-service, its not him on the blue and white bike that torpedoes everyone at turn 1.

i think there might be a delay to this result if that man does not give the place back as you do not overtake under yellows!

so that was the <2 shown to him .. to give the place back .. should've done that .. too bad there aren't radios in bike racing cause it's hard to get that kind of info to the rider

Iannone rejoins in 16th, what a jib for him... Communications to a rider must be improved!

it seems it wasn't the move on Luthi that got him the penalty .. but a lap 2 pass on the straight ..

oy oy oy! como este Morales? What a big shunt that was, did he get over the line as he was tearing up the grass and his bike? Lucky boy if he is ok - was moving his arms when they took him into the medical centre.

I'm staggered he was getting to his feet after that. The bike dragged him onto the grass, flipped over a few times and then landed on him, bouncing him a couple of feet into the air.

If all he has is some broken bones from that he's a very lucky man. When I saw it happen live I thought he had no chance. To add insult to injury, this is from autosport:

A rule that mandates that a rider must be on his bike to appear in the race results meant that despite crossing the line, the Spaniard was not classified.
