With all the complaints about the cost of motor racing here's a chance to see it for FREE.
Spectators entry to Saturday Victorian Motor Race Championship round at Calder Park is free. On track practice & qualifying starts around mid day and we go until we finish. It's a single day Twilight so some races will be under lights after the sun goes down. Categories running are; 2 LSS - for vehicles complying with the 2LSS Regulations BMW E30 - for vehicles complying with the BMW E30 regulations FORMULA FORD For Vehicles complying with the Formula Ford Regulations SPORTS SEDANS - for vehicles complying with Sports Sedan Regulations, HISTORICS - for vehicles complying with the Historics Regulations SALOON CARS – for vehicles complying with the Saloon Cars Regulations SUPER TT – For Auscar, Improved Production, HQ, Porsche, Production Sport Cars etc. The poster only lists the AASA sanctioned rounds of the series but there's also two rounds at Sandown & PI under CAMS sanctioning so it's a 10 round united series this year http://www.calderpark.com.au/circuit_vmrc.html |

Well, as no one else has shared the secrets of the day I might as well.
Good day, bit hot, good racing despite smallish fields. Most competitors said they loved racing under lights. And the highlight of the event was the 6:00 PM dinner, Two full lambs on the spit. Yep, Farmer Bob (Jane) fed all officials, competitors & crew a spit roast dinner & BBQ, then everyone went night racing. A great concept, which I'm led to believe will continue (the spit roast AND the twilight racing). [ Now if only the PIARC run event at PI in May were to offer a hot roast lunch on the Sunday, maybe less people would go home with Chilblains. ] . |

geez, sadly I remember the days when Phillip Island trace track was a sheep farm, in the days when it was in Len Lukey's hands.
He actually had an argument with the local council about rates, he reckons it was a farm that had a few race meeting now and then, but they thought differently. I remember they had to clean the lamb bullets off the track before going racing. |

The regular timing team were up in SinCity for some club event (A1GP) so I think it might take a day or so for them to be posted up.

There was some good racing on track and even an on track BBQ to match the lamb roast although competitor numbers were down which I'd put down to being to close to the end of the holiday season and school starting again.
Same happened last year with Round 1 being quiet and the other rounds picking up. |

Yes, was quite a lamb. I found the twilight part of the meeting a bit dull in terms of flagging 'cos my point (4) was in complete darkness. But it was a good opportunity to watch some racing for once. Mick Blue Devil X1-9 |
