Please remember that in the event that you should need to use the hammer, DO NOT aim the point in the middle of the window as it will produce NO result.

It must be applied to a corner - any corner and the window will disintegrate as designed.

^^^ But not the windscreen, that won't shatter ^^^

I have an automatic center punch that works much better than the glass hammers.

Why not just open a door or undo the seatbelt?

Glass hammers - Not particularly useful, don't work on windscreens and lexan windows, only good for side windows and if the side windows are intact then it's not a big enough incident!

Seatbelt cutters - Good pair of tuff-cut or bandage sheers will be much more effective and more versatile.

Nice thought, but experience says spend your money elsewhere.

wont glass hammers break if you use them.better stick to my trusted lump hammer, will break anything, and everything,if desired.i generally use a chainsaw to cut through seat belts, but the sight of a chainsaw going at full pelt usually means the driver gets out before i get there.....hahahahahahaha well i thought it was funny

I got one of these free off the front of a magazine a couple of years ago, luckily I have not had to use it yet.

But beware the trend to fit laminated glass in the side windows of more cars. The modest hammers we are talking about won't help you much.

And. like MagnetOn, I recommend TufCuts. Good for seat belts (I last used one for these purposes in about 1985, I think) but helmet straps, overalls and leathers as well.

In the "expensive but worth it category" is this gem of a multi-purpose device:

Hehehe - Last year when I was training we dealt with a Porsche 924 accident - the driver was obviously distressed and the (really excellent and experienced) Marshal I was with was unable to open the door. The car had plastic side windows so the Marshal used the easiest and quickest tool within reach - his fist!! It worked a treat.

He simply punched a hole in the plastic which enabled him to reach inside and open the door. It was amusing to watch (in retrospect) and the fist sized hole was quite amazing. Not sure I, or most people, would be able to do that on glass though - it is very hard to break glass.

I do not know whether the Marshal in question had bruised knuckles the next day

(BTW - the driver "only" suffered minor concussion and was Ok the next day which was excellent news- and I think his window was the least of his worries!)

Underside of a fire bottle works well, too. Unless you hit right in the middle of the plastic window... I couldn't flag for laughing at that one.

I've got A a few of these things but I am not going to have a BAT utility belt!

You'll always find the best thing is you being there.

Have a cutter with you the rest you can find, wether it is the end of a bottle, steel toe cap or a photographer
