On Sunday, Michael Schumacher won his fourth WDC, his second successive for Ferrari, after also taking back-to-back titles for Benetton. The commentators claimed he was the first peson to win two titles for two different teams.
BUT..... In 1954, Fangio drove a Maserati to victories in the first two races, and then joined Mercedes to finish out the year. In 1955, he drove for Mercedes to win the title. Then in 1957 (after spending 1956 at Lancia-Ferrari) he rejoined Maserati to win his fifth WDC. Now could you say that Fangio also won two titles with two different teams. 1954/57 with Maserati, and 1954/55 with Mercedes. Your thoughts? |

Yes one could..But Michael Schumacher's titles are consecutive...Fangio's were not.

Let's suppose Fangio would have finished the '55 season with two races for Maserati.
According to your reasoning, at that moment he would have won two titles for Maserati (1954/55) and two for Mercedes (1954/55) ... --- I would say he won the 1954 championship for Mercedes, considering he still would have scored 36 points (almost 11 points more than the runner up) if we would discount the first three races. |
