http://www.speedcafe.com/2014/07/29/...e-change-2015/

they should call it the ''Australian Supercar Championship 2.0'', you heard here first on tentenths.

what would you guys think a good name for the best racing series in Aus? and don't say Group A.

Imagine spending 20+ years establishing a brand name, locally, internationally. Plenty of marketing push, investment, IP...

Then you decide to chuck it...

To change from F1 to say 'Bernie's Bananas'

It would be super difficult to imagine the value proposition in that business case

Heres one out of left field. How about the 'Australian Touring Car Championship' or does LP still own the rights to that and they'd have to pay him royalties, Ha Ha.

Formula One is a good case in point; the regulations for the engines have changed dramatically over the decades yet the name "Formula One" has always been relevant through all the years, so there's been no need for change.

V8 Supercar needs to come up with a new name that is likewise universal and timeless.

The exclusive V8 formula is going to come to an end some time in the future, probably sooner rather than later. It's the world we live in today.

People will get used to the name change. Some people were up in arms about the Group A name being dropped in favour of V8 Supercars but the new name was quickly accepted.

What about calling it a "Superstar Supercars" or "Star Supercars", "Supercar Stars", "Code Supercar", "Star Touring Cars", "Formula Supercar" (FIA may not like that one), "Supercar league", "Supercar Series", " Supercar Festival", "Super Sedans" (is a Mustang a sedan?)...

Australian Supercars or Australian Supercar Series.

Not that much of a departure from the existing, but will allow non V8's, and non 4 door sedans

I have a strong feeling that when they decide to drop the V8s from the series, it wont matter what they call it.
Bathurst will retain its spectators and TV viewers, but as for the rest.......

Yep, wouldn't be too quick to dump the name after 20 years of investment.

The smart move would be to bring some prominence to the ATCC name again and over time transition from one to the other. At some point the V8s won't be the formula. At SOME point we'll run out of oil :P *ducks*

Why not?

The early years of the V8 Ford vs Holden formula from 1993-1996 it was still called Group A.

The 'V8Supercar' name came in for 1997, but the regulations didn't change.

We effectively had that name for this series from 1960-1998.

No matter what the regulations in use (be it Appendix J, Improved Touring, Group C, Group A, V8Supercar), the championship always ran each year under the "Australian Touring Car Championship" name.

In 1999 it obviously became the "Shell Championship Series", before in 2002 the class name became the championship name with the adoption of the "V8Supercar Championship Series" tag.

As you say the F1 regs have been the same since 1950 (not that there has been a world championship for F1 every year since 1950 of course)

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I can see that they would need to change the name if they are looking at moving away from v8 motors, But otherwise why even try or bother

However , change of name and a change of coverage at the same time may result in a lack of continuity from two points of view, not sure thats a good thing

Series was Group 3A from 93 -96, it had a name change in 97 but still remained the same

Group A stopped in 92 in Australia

Says V8 Supercars Australia chairman Tony Cochrane: "This is also the biggest campaign, by a long, long way, that V8 Supercars has embarked on and let me tell you we've done some big things in our history. It is an enormous coup for our sport to have P!nk as an ambassador for the next three years and we are very proud to have her on board.
Of interest was that this was also supposedly a 3 year deal, but I cant remember seeing this beyond the first 6 or so months of 2010.
