Ironic that a retro round and a heroes and legends of touring car racing will be the centre piece of their promotions whilst they continue to ignore any pre 97 touring car champions/ships

I think the shorter format is a good idea, who has two days spare on a weekend to attend a race meeting? Let alone 4.
Morning quali, then start racing, you can get a hell of a program in when you don't mess about. Make it a full program too, not hours and hours of waiting. Good idea! |

What a rubbish idea.Eastern Creek midweek? The motorways and roads in the area are choked with peak hour traffic.A nightmare for anyone coming from the east. Most people who live in the western suburbs are a long commute from their workplace.Hardly going to want more commuting chaos then they have to put up with already.
The comparison with the BBL is farcical. These venues are centrally located and the BBL concentrates on Christmas/New Year when people are on holidays.Check how poor NRL attendances were on Thursday and Monday nights. If this happens guarantee the lowest Supercars crowd of all time. |

Might actually increase crowd numbers at Eastern Creek. For some reason I just think a night race would succeed where the traditional format has failed in what should be SC heartland.

Don't see the format nor the nighttime being the issue or a game changer with v8 racing at SMP?
Remember the long weekend solution? It's the product - SMP was packed out in its early years. V8SC attempts to marginalise the event, to try and leverage the Homebush street race is a large part of the issue |

Not to mention that the cars themselves are not suited to sprint races.
Minimum 200km races is the way forward. |

the continual way your posts attack and troll Supercars by dragging up history of unrelated topics from 20 years ago causes me to feel depressed about motorsport

...and where do they hope to get the volunteer officials from?
They would be required to be there before sparra fart as is Supercars usual requirement and be there on duty until some time late into the night all on a normal workday. |

Two laughable things straight up;
1. A non-championship race with "exciting variations".... The whole Supercars paddock and part of the fanbase has whinged and moaned for years that the non-championship Grand Prix support races were a waste of time and they'd rather see the back of them, even though they've tried to spice them up with various formats.... now the boss is telling us that they are part of the long-term agenda.... 2. Short race formats... Everyone has complained, particularly after Pukekohe, that the short races were rubbish... now they want a mid-week format that further embraces short races? People travel to a motor race to spend the day there, it is not anything like going to a sporting field. Supercars aren't drags or the speedway... A one-day Saturday format, culminating in a twilight or night Supercars race, would be a much better option. Quote:
The pre-race "trophy presentation" at Homebush on the Sunday was ridiculous, given what they had done at Sandown just 3 months earlier |

As some have already covered in this thread, this whole idea makes little sense to me, especially when you look at the quality of the shorter races this year in the series. I do like the idea of a Saturday evening race that ends after sundown, that to me would attract more fans.

Yep, the short races do not work, may as well run a series of qualifying sessions.
Even the 4 x 100km format was iffy. Should be 200km minimum. |

Could short races work if its only a one day event. could have 3 times 10 minute races or even an elimination format
But not mid week |

Either of those formats would place an enormous premium on qualifying, especially on the more bland circuits.

That was one of the reasons for ditching the original 3 x 20 minute race format. It was so hard for driver to work their way forward if Q didn't go to plan. There were race meetings there with not a straight panel left in the field after the 2nd race.

What about SUPERLAP!!!!
45 minute practice in the afternoon. 45 minute qualifying around tea time. Top ten shoot out at around 8 to finish. Quick, exciting, cheaper for teams, no crap short "races", something a bit unique as far as formats go and allows teams to really focus on outright pace. |

I'd actually like to see a series of short races, in a kind of knock-out format.
10 minute races for the heats, 15mins for the final. Starting positions in the first round, detirmined by an all-in 15min quali. Split them up into say, 4 groups. Maybe add in a few willing DVS cars, to even the numbers out. Perhaps 8 cars per group. Group 1 vs 3, 2 vs 4. Top 4 from each group advance to the next round. Starting order from then on, detirmined by their fastest lap in the previous race. Top 4 from round 2 go into the final race. Soft tyres for the whole event. New softs for the final. |

Twenty20 has got people to the cricket that wouldn't otherwise go so V8s wants to do the same. Fair enough, although these have been done before.
Remember the Triple Challenge events - they were very popular single day/night events; although the drags added a lot to it. And the 1996 Saturday night meeting was pretty good at SMP. So it can work. Just needs the right format is all. A single-day Saturday day/nighter in early autumn or late spring could work nicely. So long as they bring in some actual innovations to the show, not just condense a standard race meeting into a few hours. 1 x 40 min practice session; 1 x 20 min Q session and a change to the format. Not sure exactly what, but maybe there's only 30 mins between races. Or maybe there's an inverted grid, or maybe a round-robin knock-out. Something that sets it apart. Maybe if there's 4 races every driver has a '5-second button' which allows them to get an artificial 5 second improvement in their race time. But they have to nominate the race. An event like this would be good for gimmicks and to try things. |
