Good for JP. Kinda looks like a Ferrari wheel, though, more dials than buttons!

How naff are those trophies!? Six points was as good as a win (considering that the red cars were in a different race!) - so I add my own "well done". He didn't exactly provide the same spark at that race as we've gotten used to, but there again it can't be easy to remain up-beat in the face of such domination.

High hopes that they can at least be a little closer in Austria. And then Monaco - the real character test... not much of a race but a severe test of character and concentration (which he comprehensively failed last year). I wholeheartedly hope that Montoya proves that he has what it takes and manages to retain his very likeable manner.

As I mentioned in another thread and not meaning to be repetitive, Monty generouly gave this cool trophy away to one of his mechanics.

http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.cfm?id=18793&series=5

"Montoya then gave his race trophy to his number one mechanic Colin Watts, who has been with Williams for more than 10 years and was having his last race on the Colombian's car before taking up a factory-based job."

I wonder what the protocol is when he has his trophies arranged in his trophy room display.
Does he have a "replica" made or does he leave an empty space with framed picture of him and Colin Watts with the trophy?

I wonder . . . .

I did wonder on whose wheel they model those trophies, or if they're an amalgam of various ones. Senna12 seems to be on the money, though -- looks very like a Ferrari wheel to me.

I was in the Ferrari museum/shop in Maranello last year, and wish I'd spent more time examining the trophies (an enormous, wall-long case, with a very partial sub-set of their manufacturer's takings...) they had in there -- looking back, there're a lot of details I'd have liked to examine more closely.

Life is good - at least for some of us . . .

If by the "Oh c'mon" you think that we are implying that Juan is the only one that has done that good deed, - it is not so.

Whoever gives his trophy away as a geture of good will and respect, I commend him.

heck, they can give one to me whenever they want.

I lifted this from Formula 1 magazine, it's a quote from Patrick Head on why he and the team are impressed with Montoya -
"He will know the mechanics on his car, will know if their married, what their names are and whether theyv'e got children. They appreciate that, though it must be said they would rather have an unpleasant driver who's quick than a super-nice guy who doesn't use the equipment hard out on the circuit. He knows that the more people in the team like him, and want to get the best out of themselves for him and the team, the better it is for him."
It would appear to me that Montoya knows which side his bread is buttered on. Something that Schumacher is also famous for!
Did anybody else notice in qualifying the shot of the Williams team man making the universal sign for Big Appendages after Montoya's hot lap put him fourth on the grid. Methinks they have a healthy respect for the Monster!

JPM did drive a good race but sadly will have to have a big slice of luck to beat those Ferraris.

And I don't like these new trophies either.

A good drive! It's drives like that which are going to win him a WDC. Good clean drives.

Have I missed something? I don't remember JPM doing anything spectacular. He was third, Ralf goofed and JPM went past, then JPM went into the pits and ran over the Lollipop Man, then he just went round and round and came in second. I was so bored that I went to sleep immediately DC crossed the finish line. The only thing that kept me awake all night was DC running fourth at some stage which was true to my prediction at the time, thank goodness for the predictions competition. Otherwise I would not have stayed up after the third lap.
I want to see action, I want to see JPM pass MSch going round the outside of a corner, I want to see close quarter fights. What the heck went wrong with Williams?

I don't think anything has really gone wrong with Williams. I think Ferrari were spot on when they said the new car was 1 second quicker (if not more than that!). This years Williams is not one second quicker than last year.

Well, actually it IS a Ferrari steering wheel. (Most probably the reason being the Marlboro triangle, since the official name is Gran Premio Marlboro de Espana)

Nobody cares about TGF. Keep him off the JPM threads at least, can't you please?

As for trophy donators, remember Eddie giving Salo his "winning" trophy in acknowledgement that Salo had given him the "win"? (Eddie may be a but he is certainly honest.)

And my favourite of all times is the one that enraged Ron Dennis just as it was calculated to do: upon signing to drive for Ferrari, Alain Prost dropped his last McLaren trophy into the crowd.

Speed, with the greatest respect for your lap times, they failed to make me happy.
I can't get excited when my favourite, JPM, is slipping behind further and further. That I didn't miss, as this kept coming on the screen : fastest lap to MSch, JPM losing out to even Ralf. OH! Yes!! I was slightly less unhappy when JPM started to make up a little time on Ralf, but that was just a teaser. The only real event that woke us up was when when the Lollipop Man got run over - that provided the only excitement in the dull race.
I repeat - show me overtaking, show me a fight, show me real racing, please.

Yeah, I guess we all were expecting JPM to be a storm, figthing every corner, and kicking TGF out to the grass.

As the commentator are saying, Ferrari is in a different class right now.

Formula One Class "A" = Ferrari

Formula One Class "B" = the rest.
