Here's some info from Autosport 8/8/02, when the car was displayed in component form (monocoque chassis/engine/wing package) to Formula Renault Eurocup teams at Spa...

========

Car to be launched in Paris on September 26th, will feature F1-derived technology including steering wheel-mounted paddle gearshift & electronically assisted clutch, plus a 2-pedal set-up. Car also has a hydraulic system to power major ancillaries and uses torsion-bar suspension technology.

Tatuus has a six-speed sequential gearbox, with 3.5 litre V6 engine revving to 6800rpm (320bhp).

Aim is to create another step on the ladder between F3 and F3000. Grids will be limited to 34 cars.

Tatuus built car to FIA F3000 safety standards & plans to produce & deliver 17 cars by December so all teams (restricted to 2 cars each) can begin testing with first car.

Prototype chassis is currently (or was then) awaiting a gearbox before whole package is revealed in September, when testing is due to begin.

Renault promises 8 or 9 European rounds, all featuring double-header races. New series replaces Eurocup; 2-litre cars to be restricted to domestic competition.

Fortec, Manor & Paston attended launch and all voiced their interest in the new series.

========

There are some sketches of the car in Autosport - if someone could scan them that would be good.

Some other stuff I also read in Autosport more recently was that Renaud Derlot and Signature Competition plan to graduate to the series together from French F3, and Team Astromega are looking at moving to the series (see other thread).

Hope this info is useful!

Anyone know of anything about the new series on the web? Any other driver/team entry rumours?

I think its a shame what Renault have done. The Eurocup particularly this season was outstanding. 53 cars at Spa, and over 30 at most rounds. Now they're getting rid of it and creating a new series in their place. Problem is they cant just get the numbers they did before. It was very easy for National FRS teams to do the Eurocup. THe car was the same, you just took some fuel and a set of tires and went to a Eurocup round on a non-clashing weekend. As an example the Italian series has no clashes with the European so teams were doing both. Now if someone wants to do both series they need to buy brand new cars, different mechanics and engineers, etc.

Big error by Renault dumping the Eurocup.

they did have a point dropping it, but like you say, national teams could put a set of tyres in the truck and go to spa. or imola. or wherever. huge grids made for good racing. it's a shame renault can't do some sort of deal to support f1, and keep costs down because then you'd have a whole lot of very good action...

Looks like Renault Sport have done a U-turn according to today's Autosport... They will run a "scaled-down" Eurocup in 2003, as "several Eurocup teams reacted angrily to the plans and made representations to Renault Sport boss Daniel Charles to keep the class."

Renault Sport have announced there will be a 2003 Eurocup, but with only 5 or 6 rounds, with events in France, Italy, Germany and Britain. Organisers will probably run events in conjunction with each country's national FR championships.

The result is we still have a load of championships levelled "between F3 and F1" and all claim to have "identified a niche in the market".

Who does this market research? Are they blind?

Do it the other way. Have Super Renault races in conjunction with the National FRS races and keep Eurocup where it is. When Super Renault can demonstrate that it is a stronger series than Eurocup, then you can move them around.

Some more Formula Super Renault news from Autosport 19/9/02:

*The winner of this year's inaugural Fran-Am 2000 series (US F.Renault) will receive a drive in F.Super Renault in 2003.

*The new series is set to run on Eurosport's "Super Racing Weekend" package next year. Insiders say a deal with Eurosport's package has been done. There will be a Saturday race and a Sunday morning race.

Super Nova to F.Super Renault!

Today's Autosport says that top F3000 team Super Nova Racing will enter the new Formula "Super Renault" series next year.

The team will also continue in F3000. They will take one of four slots allocated to British based teams in Formula Super Renault.

David Sears said:

"Super Nova has agreed to do Super Renault because we feel it's something we should be involved in."

Sears denied the move is a snub to F3000:

"Super Renault will compliment our existing F3000 programme. We're looking to diversify. There are no clashing commitments on dates, so it will not be a problem."

Latest from Autosport 3/10/02 is that the new "Super Formula" car will make its public track debut at Donington this weekend, at the Super Racing Weekend meeting. Boris Derichebourg (ex-F3000) will drive. The car was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last week, shortly after initial testing was carried out at Vairano in Italy. After Donington, the car will undergo intensive testing in southern Europe.

The back end of the Formula Monza car - junior to Formula Renault.

They've run it this year in Italy with big grids. As you are all probably aware, people have been asking if it will come to the UK in 2003. FRenault teams could then set-up junior squads. There are options of taking it with or without front and rear wings.

If it does come, FFords could be in for a tough time. The Monza is carbon fibre and, I think, is about £15,000 ready to race (inc. engine and gearbox). And how about that title ... Monza!

The Formula Super Renault car is on display at Donington's ETCC/FIA GT meeting this weekend and was due to run for the first time in public today (Friday).

Everyone who's seen it keeps saying it's amazing - design and build level on a par with F1. With Tatuus having designed it, I wouldn't be surprised.

Does anyone have an idea on the budgets ?

With Formula Renault Eurocup with figures around € 250.000 i can imagine that this one will go up to € 400.000 to € 500.000 range, which will be similar to Nissan V6 and Euro 3000.

On Eurosport's "Super Racing Weekend" coverage today they showed the Formula Renault V6 car in action at Donington with Boris Derichebourg. Think the same programme's on again tonight at 11:15.

They said something about the expected budgets in Euros I think, I'll check and come back here when I've found out.

Checked the Eurosport coverage, they say 500,000 Euros. I'm used to £s, so don't know how this compares to F3000, Euro 3000, World Series V6?

£300,000 - I can't conceive of having that sort of money, nor how you could raise it.
