Eligibility for V8 Supercars

I may be wrong on this point, but i heard the eligibility criteria for V8 Supercars was that they had to be produced in Australia in rear wheel drive form and sold with a pushrod V8.
Does this mean technically, that Ford is ineligible to compete in this years series.

It may be that they don't have to be sold with a Pushrod V8 but they have to run with a Pushrod V8.

This is what the CAMS manual said in 1993:

2. RECOGNITION OF CARS To be considered eligible by CAMS for inclusion as an Australian Touring Car vehicles must be homologated by the FIA or homologated by CAMS. For cars to be eligible for Class A (exclusively Holden and Ford vehicles) at least 25,000 examples of the body/chassis/suspension family must have been constructed in a period of 12 months. It this construction has not been achieved, the manufacturer will be required to enter into a bond to ensure compliance. The normally aspirated engine must be from the same manufacturer. If from a different model, 5000 examples of it must be made within 12 months ending not later than 12 months after the application is submitted. Evidence of production will be required. Such engines will require the specific approval of CAMS. CAMS will homologate non standard components including cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and bodywork, in accordance with the Class A Homologation Regulations.
And this is what the rules say in 2000
I don't know what the current rules say as I don't have the latest book (and CAMS is not getting any more money out of me)

Thanks Morris 1100. So if it is worded that the engine used is 2 valve per cylinder the BA Falcon is eligible even though now not sold with one as such.

It is this bit that says what car you can run..

If you look at this bit

you will see that CAMS decide what car and what engine a company can run......

This means that Toyota can run whatever car CAMS allows them.
If CAMS allowed them to run a Lexcen they could.....
If CAMS said no then they can't!

The power lies with CAMS and not Toyota (or any other company)

I think you'll find that the power actually lies with AVESCO, to which CAMS has "contracted" category management rights.

If AVESCO thinks it is in its commercial interests to allow another make into the series, then and only then will it happen. It long ago ceased to be a sporting matter to which CAMS holds sway.
