Maserati 250F

This is in fact a shameless plug for one of our 10-tenths members. David McKinney's new tome on the Maserati 250F arrived in TimD Towers this weekend, and every spare moment I have had has been spent diving into it.

My verdict? It's a cracker!

Congratulations, David. It looks to me as though you've created one of those essential references.

Thanks Tim
Haven't seen it myself yet, though copies are getting into the shops
I know Collectors Carbooks are going to have them on sale at the VSCC/HSCC Silverstone meeting this weekend

Does he explain the logic behind making the gas pedal the center of the three? Weird if you ask me and born out by the number of people who had trouble with that...

No he doesn't, but then that odd (to us) pedal placement was standard practice for makes other than Maserati, and by no means a pecularity of the 250F

Wasn't it to facilitate heel-and-toe gearchanges?

Entering a corner, you braked with the heel of your right foot and changed down by blipping the accelarator with the toe. Particularly necessary with a non-synchro (crash) gearbox when double declutching was a must. You can do the same with a conventional right hand (or should it be right foot?) pedal but you have to use the ball of your foot on the brake and the heel or side of your foot on the accelarator. It's easier with a floor-mounted "organ" accelarator pedal.
