Smile For The Bernie
Just seen this and thought it was amusing!
"Bernie Ecclestone has threatened to fine drivers if they do not smile and wave at spectators during driver parades....And if they don’t smile and wave their wallet will face the consequences. He said: "We have to stop taking and start to give back to the public....Look at the people who sat in the Hockenheim grandstand in 35-degree heat. All they had to look at from F1 on the Sunday morning before the race was the drivers' parade. "Twenty idiots on the lorry chatting among themselves and not even acknowledging the crowd. They didn't bother to wave or anything. Well, if they don't in future maybe we will have to fine them." Source: www.itv.com/f1 |

Absolutely.
But then again, we surely don't expect the primadonnas to notice the fact that people are actually watching their efforts, and, worse still, have paid money to do so, do we? |

I have found that when the F1 drivers are all hearded onto the FIA low-loader trailer, then they all start to natter with each other rather than smile & wave at the paying public!
In Canada, for example, the drivers have an old car (Austin Healey) with their own driver to take them on their parade lap. Result....no one to natter to, so they DO smile and wave at the crowds! |

They used to do that at the British GP too until a couple of years ago. As you say, they have nothing else to do then other than wave to the crowd.

This'll be perfect training for some drivers! They can perfect that "It really wasn't my fault" walk for when they fail to finish the race and have to walk back to the garages! |

As observer said, they should revert to earlier years - each driver in a separate car (obviously open, race sponsor provided or maybe team provided?) with a driver, so they can actually concentrate on the crowd...
Dunno who's idea the low loader was, but it belongs in a street carnival not an F1 meeting... |

Hmmm... "Michael can't race today because his umbrella poked him in the eye on his parade lap..."

They do race in open cars, that's true. But they usually have helmets on then to keep the rain off...

I agree with the Observer and Stephen, the open top car is the way to go and do away with the low loader.

So he really called them "twenty idiots on a lory"? Maybe MM & BE could ride the low loader so that the drivers could return the favor minus 18.

Total rubbish. Never mind the F1 drivers parade, give us some support races. I was sat looking at an empty track for way too long at Silverstone. Give us touring cars, saloon cars, formula 3, anything. Just don't let us have to watch road sweepers cleaning up dust from the track for hours on end.
