Heidfeld to Tes Williams Today
Nick Heidfeld's test with Williams has been moved up to Wednesday after BAR blocked plans for Anthony Davidson to drive their F1 rivals' car.
Heidfeld is hoping to impress the BMW-powered team enough to land a drive for 2005. He had been due to test from Dec. 9. http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?id=1935322 Good luck, Nick. Last edited by Led ZeppF1; 1 Dec 2004 at 09:02. |

Nick wasn't that impressive in the Jordan team last season, IMO. But I hope he gets the chance to proove why there is quick in his nick.
I'd rather have Button or Fisichella in the Williams though, or even Coulthard, Villeneuve or Verstappen. I hope Davidson will get his change to gain race experience, for example at Minardi or Jordan. He might have the qualities to become a future f1 top driver. |

It would be interesting to see Verstappen in the Williams actually..
He would be cheap, bring experience and sponsorship to the team, and most likely quick. |

Hope?
I hope Sebastien Bourdais get a chance to test Williams cars. I am sure he will impress Sir Frank and get the second seat in Blue-White teams. |

Isnt Sebastien tied up with champ car contracts though ??
I think Bourdais will find his way into the Renault team in a year or so. |

Heidfeld's Jordan season was the most impressive of his career if you look at it closely.
He certainly deserves the chance of this Williams test. |

Absolutely, KB. If people were paying attention, Nick was extremely impressive driving that Jordan. That little commentary in Autosport a few weeks ago really highlighted it. It was the same weekend after weekend all season - a level of consistently impressive lap times that few on the grid seem able to manage.
I guess it's looking like Pizzonia for the race seat and Heidfeld for the testing role... |

Heidfeld beating Raikkonen was more impressive to me.
If it comes to Pizzonia? Heidfeld is more talented no doubt. |

Ozman and I have our fingers crossed. This is Nick's best chance yet. Good luck to him. He's deserved the chance and now its up to him to make the most of it.

I just think Heidfeld is a much better option that Pizza who has already been demoralized by MW once.
(MW is quicker in testing already... i am suprised considering that Pizza should know a lot more about the car) |

Don't know the media in Australia, but in Europe, every article was very clear about it. Antonio was demoralized by Jaguar, not MW. Last edited by Turbo_Era; 1 Dec 2004 at 12:04. |

Im so glad Australian Sam Michael and Webber are together at Williams.
Im pretty sure this Aussie combination will always work in favor of Webber at Williams.. im seeing another Jag situation for poor little Pizza boy.. Maybe he might get a drive with Dubai in 2006 ?? Williams is not the right place for a driver with his lack of skill... Maybe a lesser team like Minardi or Jordan would suit Pizza... Heidfeld needs williams and williams needs Heidfeld. |

If Pizzonia was that bad, he wouldn't be in F1. Jaguar fired him... and Williams was right there offering him a testing role. For what you are saying... Williams knows nothing about motorsports. Last edited by Turbo_Era; 1 Dec 2004 at 12:26. |

Man i can't believe some of the names being bandied about
Some of you guys must WANT williams to choose 2nd or third rate drivers ,LOL As a couple of guys said nick was often very impressive in the hopeless bad handling jordan I say often because i don't have all the info-maybe he was great was all the time. Nick and AD are their best bets I wish someone would sit down and write a good in depth objective article on all the drivers performances....all i ever see on the net are occasional comments or little tidbits of info |

In my opinion (I'm not a Brit) Ant would be the most exciting option for that seat.
I just think it's funny to see people bashing Pizzonia. He did bad at Jaguar, but has been doing an outstanding job at Williams. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be there. If he deserves a race seat. Up to Sir Frank Williams. |

Pizzonia did not look too shabby against Montoya did he?!
I guess we will find out when the 2005 season is over what the deal was at Jaguar. Jag/Ford are best forgotten! Oh yea, Heidfeld testing... Good driver but no spark. |

I think Nick's definitely the right man for this drive if Ant isn't available, and probably is if he is. Pizzonia would be adequate, but I suspect he'd find a Webber-biased team again - Sam Michael made his dislike of Montoya fairly clear through last season, and I think performances suffered as a result (although, as an aside, I think a lot of us under-estimated Ralf's setup skill, which is why the team dropped away without him).

Ozman and I are probably the two biggest Heidfeld fans here. But as much as I like Nick, I cannot really know how he will perform at Williams. I can say what I'd like to have happen and even what I think will happen. I also know how I feel about his talents in relation to Pizzonia who is a proven liability against Webber. I also know that Sir Frank and Patrick are pretty good judges of drivers. Its good that they've given him a chance to prove his worth, but frankly, now its put up or shut up.
I believe that Heidfeld will aquit himself well. But the proof as they say, is in the pudding. |

I think it would be a mistake to put Pizzonia with Webber, they've been there and done that at Jaguar. You could argue it fires Pizzonia up to prove he is as quick as Webber, or it could be a case of 'here we go again' if he doesn't.
It's hard to put a % on how much what goes on in a driver's head effects the way he performs, but it is a factor I would consider with that pairing. If it were me (assuming that AD doesn't get a chance) I would put Nick in against Webber with Pizzonia as test driver again. If NH doesn't perform after a couple of races (or whatever) they can re-shuffle without losing much as Pizzonia was their only other option anyway. I think Sam Michael and Webber will gel instantly, which could increase the pressure on AP. Despite their protestations to the contrary, I'm sure BMW do want a German driver to figure in the Williams equation. Teams often develop into factions, so a SM/MW side vs a NH/BMW angle would balance the team out more 'politically'. |
