Quick Question (BAR)

I know that the number four is considered unlucky in Japanese culture, as the word in their language for "four" is similar to their word for "death." I also know that when Satoru Nakajima and Ukyo Katayama drove for Tyrrell (who traditionally fielded the number 3 and 4 cars) in the early 1990s, they were allowed to drive the 3 car, even though they were the team's number two drivers during their tenures, due to this superstition.

My question, which just came to me, is this: is Takuma Sato going to be allowed to drive the 3 car at BAR this season?

It's the same for drivers who don't want the number 13 on their car, I suppose if Taku asked BAR would give him the number 3 plate but he might not be the superstitious type.

He doesn't strike me as being superstitious.

Sato didn't ask for it, so he doesn't have it - he appears to be not concerned.

Would this be the first case of a Japanese driver or rider racing number 4 (or any number with a 4 in) then? I'd agree that he doesn't seem like someone who'd be fazed by something as seemingly trivial and narrow as this, and I doubt it's neccessarily even crossed his mind.

Formula Juan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I think Sato's real concern should be his lack of tallent, not the number of his car.

Are you watching the same Sato?

The one I've seen doesn't have a lack of talent.

Sato didn't crash out of a race last season. Neither of his 2 biggest crashes in 2002 were his fault. He started racing at 19, twice as old as a lot of his rivals (including Jenson). Hopefully that's enough to explain how much talent he does have.

*slaps wrist* And your concern should be not to post comments aimed at starting a flame war... Keep it on topic...
