Just read the SI story on the "Danica 500" and i believe it briefly mentioned that Dan Wheldon won the race.
there was also an article on the CocaCola600 and the Eldora, Ohio dirt track now owned by Tony Stewart. SI also had a fold out comparing the following race cars: winged sprint F1 ALMS IRL NASCAR top fuel dragster |

Good mainstream United States exposure for motorsport.
Very welcome. |

Yeah, I thought it was great also.
It's not easy for any racing to get on the cover of a major weekly sports magazine here, let alone IndyCar, so I'm extremely happy to see that happen, and if it can draw in some new fans, which I have to think it will, all the better! |

The IRL certainly shouldn't be bothered (and I doubt they will be!) about promoting Danica and the female racer factor. NASCAR got plenty of mileage out of the Dale Snr/Dale Jnr emergence and certainly wanted to use drivers like Christian Fittipaldi and Jourdain to tap into the South American markets.
Even though it is unfortunate that the victor is being somewhat overshadowed - in the current climate and in terms of the IRL's position relative to major US sports, it is better this way if, as K-B and GP suggested, mainstream coverage is the result. |

Great publicity for the IRL. I think the last time the Indy 500 made the SI cover was Danny Sullivan's "spin and win" in 1985.

The FHM article was probably a better "read", though!
Just kidding. I think it's great that OW-racing is getting some mainstream publicity. I've never been able to figure out why people like any other sports in the first place! |

Fantastic! Great! And Awesome!
One SI issue is worth 200 articles from motor sports journalists. Thumbs up Just market the brand IRL and the TV dates. I really think the time is right for OW to climb back into the American cultural mainstream. I'm telling everyone to watch Texas. |
